The villa is just a stone’s throw away from the Umbrian mediaeval town of Todi. Todi is a tranquil town with fine views from high on its hill above the River Tiber, across hills dotted with isolated hamlets, olive groves, sunflower fields, and rolling farmland. Todi’s Piazza del Popolo, one of Italy’s most photogenic piazzas, is a composition of mediaeval buildings with a 12th-century cathedral as its focal point. To get the best view, you can climb 150 steps to the top of the bell tower of the San Fortunato church.
In less than an hour by car, you can reach Orvieto. The hill town of Orvieto, set on a natural pedestal, lives up to its elevated position: it is uncrowded and home to some of the most beautiful buildings in Italy. Built over several generations, Orvieto’s Duomo is one of the seven wonders of Italy and is known as the “Golden Lily of Cathedrals” for its façade, and inside it has a frescoed chapel by Signorelli that Michelangelo studied before painting his Sistine Chapel.
