Mura di Cortona

Location and Surrounding Area

Immersed in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, this magnificent estate is ideally located to explore the region’s cultural highlights and most spectacular natural wonders. With wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, this exclusive two-bedroom property is the perfect location for unforgettable day trips to the most beautiful towns in Tuscany and provides a unique opportunity to admire its splendid landscapes while soaking up the region’s incredibly rich historical and cultural heritage.

The villa is just a stone’s throw from the spectacularly sited hilltop town of Cortona. At the beginning of the 15th century, Fra' Angelico lived and worked in Cortona, and fellow artists Luca Signorelli and Pietro da Cortona were both born within the walls: all three are represented in the Museo Diocesano's sensational collection. Large chunks of “Under the Tuscan Sun”, the 2003 movie of the book by Frances Mayes, were shot here and the town has been a popular tourism destination ever since.

The villa is also a few kilometers from Arezzo. Arezzo may not be a Tuscan centerfold, but those parts of its historic center that survived merciless WWII bombings are as compelling as any destination in the region. The city's central square is as beautiful as it appears in Roberto Benigni's classic film “La vita è Bella”. Today, the city is known for its churches, museums and fabulously sloping Piazza Grande, across which a huge antiques fair spills each month.

The villa is a few kilometers from Montepulciano. Exploring the medieval town of Montepulciano will push your quadriceps to failure point. When this happens, self-medicate with a pour of the highly reputed Vino Nobile while also drinking in the spectacular views over the Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia. The villa is also a few kilometers from Perugia. With a pristine medieval center, Perugia is Umbria’s most cosmopolitan city. Its historic center rises in a helter-skelter of alleys and piazzas framed by churches and Gothic palazzi.

In one hour by car, you can reach the medieval town of Siena. Its ancient red brick buildings, the scallop-shaped main square Piazza del Campo and the Cathedral Square, dominated by the zebra-striped Duomo, make it an absolute must for anyone traveling to Tuscany. Effectively an open-air museum celebrating the Gothic, Siena boasts secular monuments that have retained both their medieval forms and their exceptional art collections, providing plenty to marvel at.

Property 10338 is 118 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 185 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport, 206 km from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, 235 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Cortona is just 1 km from the villa, Arezzo is 29 km, Montepulciano is 32 km, Perugia is 50 km, Siena is 76 km, Florence is 106 km, San Gimignano is 113 km.
