Property 10669 - SAN CASCIANO
6 Bedrooms
Location and Surrounding Area
Immersed in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, this majestic villa commands a breathtaking view over vast swathes of olive groves, vineyards, and sweet-smelling pine forests. From its idyllic setting in the rolling hills just southwest of Florence, Property 10669 is ideally located to explore Tuscany’s cultural highlights and spectacular natural and man-made wonders. Everything is within reach: the art cities of Florence and Siena, the Chianti hills with their world-famous vineyards and fortified villages, as well as local markets, butchers’ shops, wineries, and cheese producers.
What makes Property 10669 uniquely attractive is its proximity to Florence, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s just 19 minutes from Porta Romana, the southernmost gate to the city, and one of the few remaining sections of the 13th-century walls. For history enthusiasts, the gates are still hung with the original, massive iron-clad doors dating from 1327. Inside the gates, you’ll find the indescribably beautiful and humbling treasures of the city that led our ancestors from the brutal Middle Ages into the light of the Renaissance.
This is the cool side of the city, the Oltrarno, where Florentines still live and go about their daily business. Vintage stores abound, as do antique shops, art studios, artisanal jewellery shops, hip cafes, and wine bars. Not to mention the best restaurants, both traditional and avant-garde. Sublime Italian gardens such as the Boboli Gardens and the secret Torrigiani private gardens are also within the walls, along with lesser-visited churches and chapels such as the Capella Brancacci and the Basilica di Santo Spirito.
If you prefer to escape the bustle and heat of the city and immerse yourself in the Chianti lifestyle, you’re in the right place. For centuries, nobility and wealthy merchants escaped the heat of Florence by retreating to these hills. Important families associated with Chianti Classico built spectacular villas next to the imposing stone castles constructed by Florentine and Sienese warlords in the Middle Ages. Market towns like Greve in Chianti grew up where produce from farms and livestock was traded. Greve and its close neighbour, Panzano, both about 20 minutes’ drive away, are food and wine lovers' paradises with their world-famous butcher’s shops and wine festivals.
If you wish to travel further back in time to the Etruscan period, a short drive will take you to the famous Tomba dell’Arciere (Tomb of the Archer) from the 7th century BC. This is near the town of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, the largest town in the immediate area, which offers a range of shops, restaurants, and local services. It also has a fantastic farmers' market every Monday morning, which is definitely worth a visit.
At the end of the day, whether filled with culture, wine tasting, or simply relaxing by the pool, you can bring it to a beautiful close on one of the terraces, facing west to watch the spectacular sunset over the landscape that has inspired artists for centuries.
Property 10669 is 23 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 74 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport, and 308 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. San Casciano in Val di Pesa is 8 km from the villa, Florence is 16 km, Barberino Val d’Elsa is 24 km, Greve in Chianti is 26 km, Panzano is 27 km, Castellina in Chianti is 35 km, San Gimignano is 46 km, Siena is 65 km, Volterra is 68 km, Vitignano is 72 km, and Pisa is 78 km.
