Property 338
Location and Surrounding Area
Located near Trapani, this villa is the perfect place for a relaxing break on one of the most celebrated stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean. The villa is a few kilometers from Trapani, whose small port buzzes with ferry traffic zipping to and from the remote Egadi Islands and the mysterious volcanic rock island of Pantelleria, not far from Tunisia. Trapani's adjacent historic center, with its maze of ancient churches and palazzi, is a mellow place to stroll, for both locals and travelers awaiting their next boat.
The villa is also a few kilometers from the town of Marsala. Many know about its sweet dessert wines, but few people realize what a charmer the town of Marsala is. Though its streets are paved in gleaming marble, lined with stately baroque buildings and peppered with graceful piazzas, Marsala has pleasures that are simple, such as a friendly evening stroll, also known as passeggiata, most nights, plenty of aperitif options and family-friendly restaurants aplenty.
Favignana, the largest of the islands, has a rugged and barren landscape. At the jagged coast, the thin soil has been scraped off to expose the tufa rock. The island is divided in two by a mountainous ridge, and its highest point is Monte Santa Caterina, topped with a fort built by the Normans and extended in the 17th century by the Spanish. Forgotten about for centuries, Favignana’s destiny is wrapped up in the blue sea that surrounds it and inevitably dictates the life of the islanders.
Mondello became fashionable in the 19th century, when the city's elite flocked here in their carriages, thus warranting the huge Liberty-style pier that dominates the seafront and kicking off a craze for building opulent summer villas. One can hardly blame them. Mondello's sandy coastline is gorgeous, with crystal-clear turquoise waters that are difficult to resist. Most of the beaches are private, but there is also a wide swath of public beach crammed with swimmers, pedalos and jet skis.
The villa is about one hour from Palermo, one of Sicily’s most celebrated destinations. Having been the crossroads of civilizations for millennia, Palermo delivers a heavily spiced mix of Byzantine mosaics, Arabesque domes and frescoed cupolas. This is a city at the edge of Europe and at the heart of the ancient world, a place where souk-like markets rub up against baroque churches, where date palms frame Gothic palaces and where the blue-eyed and fair have bronze-skinned cousins.
Property 338 is 38 km from Trapani Vincenzo Florio Airport, 61 km from Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport, and 312 km from Catania Fontanarossa Airport. The villa is 19 km from Trapani, 27 km from San Vito Lo Capo, 50 km from Marsala, 42 km from the island of Favignana, 74 km from Mondello, 84 km from Palermo, 103 km from Bagheria, and 151 km from Cefalù.
